The Real Monarchs return to the pitch at Rio Tinto Stadium tonight after a month-long break from their home.
A week ago, RMSLC looked win number two in the face as Max Rauhofer stepped up to take a kick from the spot that had all the makings of a 2-1 lead in the 83rd minute. Rauhofer's attempt was off the crossbar, and the Real Monarchs settled for a 1-1 draw versus Sacramento. The Monarchs have an opportunity to earn that elusive second victory Saturday versus the Austin Aztex.
The Aztex and Real Monarchs faced each other a month ago in Austin, and a valiant effort by RMSLC came up short, as Austin prevailed 3-2. The Monarchs led the match 2-1, but two goals by the Aztex in the dying minutes of the match, sunk the Monarchs hopes for their first road victory.
The Aztex's skipper is former RSL assistant Paul Dalglish who spent half of a season in 2014 under Jeff Cassar before leaving mid-season to take over as head coach in Austin, a position he had held with the Aztex when they played in the USL's amateur league, the Premier Developmental League. Austin's first season in the USL Pro has them at 5-3-8 on the season, and sit two spots ahead of RMSLC in the standings at 10th in the west.
The two teams square off Saturday July 11, 2015 at 7 p.m. MDT.
