Tony Beltran named to gameday MLS All-Star roster

Chris Nicoll-USA TODAY Sports

Tony Beltran has been named to the MLS All-Star Team by Pablo Mastroeni, joining Nick Rimando, who was selected by fan vote.

Despite making in 2014, this is Beltran's second naming to the All-Star team. And, quite frankly, it's well-deserved — the right back has been the very picture of consistency for the team, and while Real Salt Lake has struggled, he's been an important figure.

This is arguably the most important season for Beltran, who is having to step into a veteran leadership role on a team that's shed some of its more experienced players over the last year.

Beltran has played in all but one match for Real Salt Lake this season — a 2-1 loss against Vancouver Whitecaps.

Beltran, an Arsenal fan, should be extra-motivated if he plays in the match against Tottenham Hotspur. His youth team was named after the North London giants, too.

The All-Stars face Tottenham on Wednesday, July 29, at Dicks' Sporting Good Park in Commerce City, Colorado.
