And somewhat outrageously, that match is taking place a week earlier than the already scheduled dates for the quarterfinal, July 20 and 21. Why, you ask? A little team called Barcelona will be playing against the Galaxy in a — you guessed it — friendly.
That match will come only three days after RSL travels to Colorado Rapids on July 11 and four days before RSL hosts Houston Dynamo. It also will come without the presence of RSL's Gold Cup participants, with the competition's group stage ending on July 14.
The original date still would have been in the middle of Gold Cup play, of course. And MLS play continues during the Gold Cup, too — that's something we've written about before.
So that's the date. Tuesday, July 14, Rio Tinto Stadium. The winner of that match will play the winner of Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City in the semifinals.
