The U.S. Men's National Team, starring Kyle Beckerman and crew, kicks off their Gold Cup campaign today in a bit for their sixth trophy in the tournament — a sixth trophy that would tie Mexico's Gold Cup trophy count.
Beckerman should be a large part of the campaign, given he's one of the more veteran players on this team, and given he's an excellent player. In fact, his not featuring in the last friendly for the U.S. against Guatemala was more indicative of his playing in the opener than not, with Jurgen Klinsmann talking about Beckerman as a known quantity.
Beckerman, wearing his trademark no. 5, is among the starters, but Nick Rimando is not — he's the backup tonight for Brad Guzan.
