Jeff Cassar confirmed on Wednesday that Real Salt Lake remains interested in Yura Movsisyan, despite reports from his agent that the striker would be remaining in Russia.
During an interview on the Bill and OC Show on ESPN 700, the RSL coach said the club has been in contact with Movsisyan, but emphasized that he's under contract at Spartak Moscow.
"Yura's a player we're very familiar with," Cassar said. "At the end of the day, he's under contract at a different club, so that's never an easy situation."
That isn't the only option for Cassar's side, he said.
"But we are in contact with him, as well as with a lot of players in their status with their clubs, or if they're a free agent," he said. "He's just one player that we're interested in, but at the end of the day, he belongs to another team."
Improving the team is a priority for Cassar and the rest of the front office, he said.
"Every team in our league is looking to improve, and we're no exception," he said. "We're working hard, we're watching a lot of players, we're watching a lot of different positions to improve our team, make us deeper."
