Tulsa Roughnecks came into tonight's match with Real Monarchs with something to prove, and they proved it with aplomb with a 5-1 win over the Salt Lake side.
Real Monarchs coach Freddy Juarez, after last weekend's loss to the same team, took umbrage with their overly defensive play. If a pre-match interview with the Roughnecks is anything to go by,
Henri Manhebo scored in the 23rd minute for the Roughnecks, giving them an early 1-0 lead.
In the 30th minute, Maikon Orellana leveled the score with a volley from outside the box, beating Tulsa's Kyle Venter.
Lucas Cordeiro put Roughnecks back on top barely two minutes later, beating RSL third-choice keeper Lalo Fernandez with a header from a corner.
Christian Mata strengthened the Roughnecks lead to a lofty 3-1, scoring unmarked from a strong Tulsa buildup, and leaving Monarchs in a slightly more miserable spot.
Tulsa's Sammy Ochoa put the icing on the cake for the home side, scoring his eighth goal of the season to put Roughnecks up 4-1 with a headed goal following a free kick from deep.
It didn't stop there, though. Christian Mata put Tulsa up 5-1 with an unexpected low, skipping shot from outside the box that went under Fernandez.
