RSL lose in dying seconds, Borchers scores

Chances were there but goals weren't for RSL.

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Real Salt Lake had a flurry of chances within the first 15 to 20 minutes of the match. Luis Silva, Olmes Garcia, and Sebastian Jaime all took turns with shots on goal that were just off the mark but they all were valiant efforts. RSL continued to dominate the first half with the ball in Portland's end the vast majority of the time. The highlight of the opening half came on a half volley shot from Luke Mulholland that was hit perfectly to the top left corner but Larsen Kwarasey came up with a save to keep RSL off the scoreboard and the two teams headed to the lockers knotted at one a piece.

the home team did not see near the amount of chances in the second half and looked more disjointed as time went on. There were a few passes into streaking players in the area but the passes were either just off or players did not one touch them to the goal as the situation would have demanded. Around minute 75 the Timbers had their best chance on the night on a breakaway with Diego Valeri getting a shot point blank that Nick Rimando saved which left Valeri with his hands on his head wondering what happened and the home crowd chanting "Nick Rimando" as together and as loud as they ever have. Rimando came up with another diving save in the 85th minute and a couple minutes later Sebastian Saucedo came up with a goal line save with his head. Chances came and went for RSL when Nat Borchers scored on a header in the last minute of the game to give Portland three points in dramatic style.
