What started off as a game in which the two teams were feeling each other out escalated quickly pretty early on. Real Salt Lake looked the part of the aggressor pushing forward plenty with the midfield buzzing on both sides of the ball. In the 12th minute Roman Torres got caught with his hands in the cookie jar and served RSL a penalty for an outstretched arm outstretched in the box. Javier Morales did his expected stutter step take and blasted it into the top right side of the net. In the 19th minute Luke Mulholland had a screamer from distance that hit the crossbar. Sebastian Jaime got the rebound in a crowd of Seattle defenders and headed in RSL's second goal. Kyle Beckerman had a bright half breaking up plays at big times and the half ended with RSL having five shots on goal compared to zero for Seattle.
The home team had a very controlled second half with as much quality possession as we have seen in a while making Seattle run. A few chances occurred but were sent high or over the bar by Beckerman, Morales, and Silva. The composure continued and RSL looked like a savvy team. Jamison Olave had some good looks on set pieces but Frei made a save to prevent the goal. A goalless second half saw RSL win 2-0 getting the full three points.
