Real Monarchs win fifth in a row, down Arizona United 1-0

Real Monarchs ended their 2015 campaign on a distinct high note tonight as they beat Arizona United 1-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium, wrapping up the season with a five-game winning streak.

Max Rauhofer scored the opener in the 13th minute, catching hold of an Emery Welshman pass made from the byline and finishing neatly at the far post with a sublime finish.

From there, it was Monarchs doing what they've certainly practiced well over the last five matches: They bunkered down and gutted out an important draw.

It was exactly the opposite of the first five — or 23 — games of the season, when they simply couldn't hold on to a lead.

Other opportunities nearly came to fruition for Monarchs, especially as Eti Tavares burst forward after entering as a second-half substitute and won two free kicks in excellent positions through his strong play.

Real Monarchs end their 2015 campaign well outside of a playoff spot, but the final five matches give the team something huge to look at moving forward. Watch for our post-season coverage to kick off in the coming days.
