RSL win big against L.A.

Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

There was a lot of excitement in the air for this one with critical points on the line and the Galaxy's big names in town. It did not take long for the Sparks to start flying with Devon Sandoval hitting a volley not too different from his goal in Houston but this time the set up came from Javier Morales and then Aaron Maund. The crowd seemed caught off guard by how it went down but Real Salt Lake found themselves up early. L.A. did not take long to push back and they repeatedly knocked at the door but we're left wanting a few times. RSL was focused in and did what they could to keep their potent attack from equalizing. Nearly 30 minutes in, Burrito Martinez drew a penalty when he was taken down in the box just when he had a head of steam. Javi calmly put it past Donovan Ricketts and RSL found themselves up by two on the defending champs. There was plenty of back and forth play to close out the half but there were no more goals.

L.A. had a great look right after the second half began but we're once again unable to finish it. This half would see Salt Lake taking their turn knocking on the door a lot, many of the chances due to Martinez's brilliant play. Around 15 minutes into the half he weaved through three or four defenders and set up Big Dev perfectly for his second goal of the night heading it past Ricketts and earning the brace. Salt Lake's intensity was sky high and chances kept coming from all directions and in different ways. The Galaxy tried to make it a game but RSL was up to the task every time and won this game in style 3-0.
