RSL gets first win of 2016

Real Salt Lake held the first of two preseason scrimmages today in Oceanside California vs San Diego State University.  Although the game was not streamed (much to the frustration of fans wanting to follow along) but action was reported on the RSL twitter feed (https://twitter.com/RealSaltLake).

The starting lineup for RSL was (4-3-3):

GK: Lalo Fernandez

DEF: Boyd Okwuonu, Jamison Olave, Phanuel Kavita, Demar Phillips

MF: Kyle Beckerman, Omar Holness, Jordan Allen

FW: Olmes Garcia, Yura Movsisyan, Juan Manuel Martinez

2' - A heavy tackle puts Beckerman down and SDSU picks up an early yellow card.

11' - RSL earns a corner. Jordan Allen to take. And SDSU gets the clearance under duress

19' - Garcia feeds Allen up the left side of the box but his cross just misses Movsisyan at the near post. 2nd effort by Beckerman cleared

22' - Phillips bends a shot from 21 yards out after taking a touch to collect. Skips into the keepers arms for the save

23' - Martinez back heels to Phillips on a run into the corner, his cross is deflected for a corner. Allen's CK goes through for a goal kick

29' - Garcia takes control on the right side and whips in a cross. Movsisyan misses just wide of the far post with a header.

31' - Beckerman finds Kavita with a free kick but his header is deflected for a corner. RSL knocking on the door now

33' - Beckerman and Holness sub out. Ovalle and Acosta to enter.

42' - Big collision with Fernandez and the SDSU forward. Play stops for a moment but both players resume

44' - Movsisyan slides a ball to the top of the box for Ovalle who hammers a shot that misses high. Still scoreless.

55' - SDSU forward gets into the box on the run but his shot is smothered by sparrow for the save

61' - Ovalle and Acosta off. Stertzer and Mulholland on.

70' - Morales finds Sandoval in the box but his shot is stopped off his foot.

70' - Morales puts RSL on the board taking possession and carrying into the box before firing his shot past the keeper. 1-0

77' - Mulholland picks up a yellow card after a rough tackle in the midfield

79' - Amass does the work to get into the box up the right and lays it off for Mulholland but his shot misses high

84' - Sandoval lays off to Morales and his shot is tipped wide for a corner

FINAL: RSL 1 - 0 SDSU

Next game on Tuesday vs Tijuana, then on to the Desert Diamond Cup in Arizona before heading to Mexico for the CCL game against TIgres!
