Real Salt Lake is without two first-choice players from the outset against LA Galaxy — a fact that seems particularly foreboding against a team that managed a smashing 5-0 win against them in the 2014 playoffs.
Yura Movsisyan, who suffered a bruised heel recently, and Tony Beltran, who in the last week suffered a back strain, are both absent from the starting lineup. Movsisyan is on the bench, as he was in RSL’s last match, while Beltran remains out of the lineup.
In their place: Olmes Garcia, starting his 10th game of the season, seven of which came from July 31 forward; and Chris Wingert, who has started slightly more than half of the games available this season.
Neither inspires much confidence from most RSL fans right now. Wingert was particularly at fault for Real Salt Lake’s first goal conceded against Seattle Sounders on Sunday, and he’s typically been substituted in matches he’s played.
Garcia looked to have a summer resurgence after Devon Sandoval was loaned to Rayo OKC for the remainder of the NASL season but has since trailed off. His only goal of the season came against Chicago Fire in a 3-1 win.
