Juan Manuel Martinez looks to be on his way out the door at Real Salt Lake after he revealed in an interview with ESPN Argentina that he’s asked to be released from his MLS contract.
When asked whether he was content and wanted to return to MLS or come back to Argentina, Martinez cited personal reasons as cause for return.
It was a personal decision to return “the country” (Argentina) — I had a contract but I spoke with the ownership, “Please, for personal reasons, we want to go back to Argentina. Now we’re here on vacation enjoying it.
We’re looking at what could be a return to Argentine football.
Martinez is under contract at Real Salt Lake and is a designated player, so it’s hard to say at this point what the club will do. We’ve reached out for comment and will update as more becomes available.
