Akaminko, 27, has played in Turkey since 2008, but a knee injury in 2014 — just before Ghana announced its World Cup squad — led to him sitting out the entire 2014-15 season for Eskişehirspor. The club canceled his contract about a month ago, as he apparently struggled to regain form.
Akaminko came on in the 60th minute for Real Salt Lake against Portland Timbers as a center back, playing alongside Justen Glad.
Akaminko has not been announced as a signing for RSL, but that his name was announced during the match — and not as an anonymous trialist — says something about his state with the team. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled on this one.
