Abdoulie Mansally traded to Houston Dynamo for draft pick

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

Real Salt Lake has traded Abdoulie Mansally to Houston Dynamo for a conditional third round 2017 MLS SuperDraftdraft pick, according to a club-issued press release.

Mansally, 27, signed for RSL in mid-2012 from New England Revolution and went on to make 49 regular season appearances for the club.

However, he remained a perennial backup at left back, serving as depth behind both Chris Wingert and Demar Phillips. He had occasionally appeared as a wide forward for the club, often in a late shift with two defensively oriented wide players to lock down opposition attacks.

With RSL drafting Max Lachowecki and re-signing veteran defender Chris Wingert after a year-long stint in New York, the writing was perhaps on the wall for this trade.

It remains to be seen exactly what RSL does with Mansally's roster slot, but with two spots open and Lachowecki in camp alongside Jerry Akaminko, the answers may be in front of us.
