Real Salt Lake creates 'fan council'

Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

A higher level of open communication could be on its way for Real Salt Lake fans, with the club organizing an RSL Fan Council, RSL Communications announced in a press release today.

Real Salt Lake announced that the club would be organizing the council from "various constituencies throughout different geographic locations of Rio Tinto Stadium."

In the press release, RSL's chief business officer, Andy Carroll, said that the goal is to facilitate broader communication.

"Our mission in the Fan Council is to encourage an even higher level of open communication amongst all cross-sections of our fans," Carroll said.

With this, the club announced an open nomination process by which potential candidates can be selected, presumably by the team. We'll let the press release speak for itself here.

As a 2016 RSL "PRIDE" Season Ticket Member, YOU have the opportunity to nominate fellow diehard Claret-and-Cobalt fans to represent various entities from all over the Stadium on the inaugural Fan Council. Please submit candidates by e-mailing RSL Fan Relations specialist Tom Penrose at TPenrose@RSL.com no later than Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Members will serve a one-year term, so let's hold the "four more years" chants for a bit.

It remains to be seen how this plays out, but it's certainly an interesting step as Real Salt Lake tries to adjust to a thriving fanbase with a season ticket holder count the press release puts at over 15,000.
