Nick Rimando saves Gignac penalty to keep RSL 0-0 at halftime

In case you needed reminding, Nick Rimando is excellent, and he showed it once again with a first-half penalty save against Tigres.

Just before halftime struck, Real Salt Lake were whistled for a penalty — perhaps unjustly, as the ball brushed Kyle Beckerman's arm from close distance.

With Andre-Pierre Gignac at the penalty spot, Rimando seemed unlikely to save this one — but to say he's faced better efforts ignores exactly how bad this one was. Giganc had a tame, low effort, showing that he's likely done no homework on Rimando's penalty-saving ways.

With that, here — just watch it for yourself.

That's one Gignac will want back — Rimando hardly had to dive at all to save that effort. Still, lesser goalkeepers might have gone the wrong way, or saved their reactions too long.

Rimando's save kept RSL level, 0-0, going into halftime, with Real Salt Lake having created a number of exciting chances.
