Report: Trio of draft picks move to Monarchs

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

Real Salt Lake's roster is still in flux, but it got a little resolution today.

According to an article from Salt Lake Tribune reporter Chris Kamrani, Max Lachowecki (second round), Amass Amankona (third round) and Connor Sparrow (fourth round) will sign with Real Monarchs.

Omar Holness, RSL's first-round draft pick, remains on the first-team roster.

That's not altogether surprising: All three are more likely to earn regular minutes early on in the season, and that's important. With any luck, the days of draft picks languishing on the bench or in the locker room, never making the team, and dropping out.

That also confirms that Real Salt Lake currently has two open roster spots, with one being created by the transfer of Abdoulie Mansally and another remaining, which would be the spot to bring in a top-level center back.

Further, with the potential loan of Boyd Okwuonu — he played in a preseason friendly for Minnesota United on Wednesday — things are hardly settled. Okwuonu likely doesn't use a senior roster spot, as he's more likely to be in a developmental or supplemental spot, but that could be a roster spot opening.

It remains to be seen if RSL fills all positions. They may keep one spot available for a potential summer transfer, as is often common practice in MLS.
