Reports surfaced today out of Costa Rica that Trinidad and Tobago defender Aubrey David may be on his way to Salt Lake.
Currently playing his club soccer at Saprissa FC, the 25 year old David has made 14 appearances and scored 1 goal during the 15-16 Primera Division Verano. Over his career he has been somewhat of a journeyman, seeing time for 6 club in 4 years. During that same time he has made 30 appearances for Trinidad and Tobago and has notched a single goal for his national team.
Paulo César Wanchope is quoted in a yashinquesada.com article:
"It is very likely that these days there will be some departures, we had offers from a couple of clubs who are asking for our players, one of the MLS and one of Portugal... it is an important opportunity , quite large "
He is, according to the report, referring specifically to offers from Real Salt Lake, Houston Dynamo, and DC United. The report goes on to indicate that any deal regarding a move would solidify sometime next week which corresponds closely with the opening of the MLS summer transfer window. (opens July 4th ironically)
There are a lot more questions than answers regarding this report, as in the GM’s statement he mentions one club but then yashinquesada refers to 3 MLS teams as potential destinations for Aubrey David.
Bringing in a right back would also be a very interesting move considering how solid Tony Beltran has been at that position all year, and for many seasons really; especially when the real need is for a seasoned center back.
All that said, it is kind of interesting that RSL is specifically mentioned as a possible destination.
