RSL vs. D.C. United: Burrito Martinez dices up the defense

MLS: D.C. United at Real Salt Lake Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

With another disappointing result at the RioT, Real Salt Lake remains unbeaten but the question remains: Have they lost their finishing touch in the final third of the game?

One player who hasn't, and the difference maker in RSL’s match against D.C. United, is Juan Manuel "Burrito" Martinez. With his technical ability on the ball, Burrito has solidified his place as one of the best attacking players in the league.

Tonight's result is tough to swallow especially considering how well RSL played. Burrito was no exception tonight. He was able to win the ball back in the midfield third, the final third and all the back in the defensive third and clear the ball out with an outlet pass to Yura or Plata. Defensively, this Burrito knows how to do it right.

Offensively, Burrito was able to take on defenders at an unparalleled rate. He took on 3 defenders multiple times in the game and left them standing in the dust. He is able to make such pinpoint passes that the defense feels as though they will get the ball but fall short as RSL was about to create opportunities to score.

The most impressive part of his game was that after he made those good precise passes, he was able to slide in and be in dangerous positions. The goal came in the 57th minute when Burrito beat 3 D.C. United players for the ball in the midfield and made a pass to Yura Movsisyan who in turn passed the ball back to Burrito at the top of the 18 yard box. He then beat the center back with a slight hesitation move and chipped the goal in over Bill Hamid, who played a phenomenal game.

RSL will try and shrug off the latest game with a well-deserved eight-day break. They face Didier Drogba and the Montreal Impact as they look to remain unbeaten at home.
