The first 35 minutes of the match were about as quiet as we have seen all season. RSL couldn't connect anything in the final third when it looked like they were about to create something, anything really. Once again, RSL conceded the first goal when Olave played the ball to Stertzer in the middle of the field about 15 yards out of the top of the box. Stertzer was double-teamed and lost the ball. It didn't take Houston long to pounce and Alex toe-poked the ball cleanly into the net. Houston would take that lead into the half.
RSL came out with more urgency their second time out of the tunnel but were still not completing the passes they were intending to make. RSL’s best chance of the night came in the 69th when Burrito had the defense beat on a set piece but headed it high. A few attacking substitutions didn't change RSL’s fate on the night and RSL lost their first home match of the year, 1-0.
