Jamison Olave suspended for violent conduct, will miss Portland Timbers match

RSL will be short-handed against a Timbers side clawing their way to playoff contention.

Real Salt Lake might be a bit short-handed on Saturday when they travel to face Portland Timbers: Jamison Olave has been suspended for one match for violent conduct against LA Galaxy.

With Chris Wingert starting against LA Galaxy on Wednesday alongside Olave, it was clear that the team was not exactly swimming in center back depth.

Luck may be slightly on RSL’s side, with Justen Glad telling reporters yesterday that he’s ready to play despite missing out on Wednesday.

Additionally, Chris Schuler should be available — at least from the bench — after missing Wednesday’s match through general soreness. He has been back in training since, leading us to think that there’s a small, small chance he could play.

But if he doesn’t, are we likely to see Chris Wingert alongside Justen Glad? It seems nearly inevitable at this point, doesn’t it? But we might also get to see a partnership that brought Glad to the fore at Real Monarchs — that is, if Phanuel Kavita, who was on the bench on Wednesday, gets a chance to play.

Given how well Wingert and Olave formed a partnership — which is to say, not particularly well — don’t be surprised if we see a young, raw center back partnership. Maybe it will work.

Now, how exactly did Olave get that suspension? That one’s simple.
