Nick Rimando, whose impending free agency has been a talking point for the entirety of 2017, isn’t writing off a return to Real Salt Lake for 2018.
In fact, he says he’d love to return.
“I would love to, yeah,” he said following RSL’s 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City. “The good thing is that talks are happening now. Communications with my representatives and Real have started.”
A return for Rimando would see the longest-tenured player in Claret and Cobalt stay here.
His roots in Salt Lake City could be the thing that keep him at the club, but he said it’s about the club, too.
“I’ve got a lot of roots here,” he said. “Real has something that we’re rebuilding — there were some average years after we got rid of some players, and now you can see we’re on the rise again. Mike’s done really well with this team. If you see in the second half of this season ... I’d love to be back, and hopefully those conversations go in a good way.”
