As we all wait for some real news to emerge in this silly season, let’s see just how well you know the midfielders for Real Salt Lake. Below you will be presented with 2017 season long heat maps for five of RSL’s midfield crew. Your task will be to identify each of them. But first, a little background...
The image immediately below this is the season long heat map for Yura Movsisyan. The white arrow at the top of the image indicates the direction of play. In other words, Nick Rimando would be defending the goal to left side of the image. As a forward Movsisyan spends the bulk of his time in the other team’s half so that is where the yellow orange and red shades exist.
The shades measure the number of touches taken in that position. Yellow indicates the fewest touches followed by orange and then red. The large red blob below the center circle and in the offensive half is where Yura most frequently received the ball during his time on the field, probably following long periods of play in the other defensive half of the field. More touches in a location means deeper or more opaque colors. Yura was not on the field for a good part of the season so he has only a few areas of deep red.
