RSL wants Brooks Lennon, obviously

There’s no surprise needed from this ESPN FC report.

MLS: Sporting KC at Real Salt Lake Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

ESPN FC is reporting news that, well, if you’re following Real Salt Lake closely, isn’t really news at all: We’re looking to bring in Brooks Lennon permanently.

Of course, they’re citing “sources” in their report, which is always a load of fun. But RSL general manager Craig Waibel hasn’t been shy about his desire to bring in Lennon permanently, although he hasn’t been drawn one way or another on whether or not that would take the form of a transfer or a loan.

Regardless, we can say without too much controversy that we do want Lennon, and there’s no need to go to anonymous sources for it.

RSL would do well to bring in Lennon on a free transfer or following the end of his contract. Given Lennon’s projected starting position behind Jefferson Savarino, an expensive transfer would make roster building difficult for RSL. Of course, there always remains a chance that letting him leave at the end of his contract could mean another club could swoop in, but the ball seems very much in our court here.

We’ll seek further updates as the weeks continue — but don’t be shocked if RSL news continues its slow trickle throughout the next month.
