In what is certainly the most exciting news of the day, in which the MLS Expansion Draft protected lists are announced, it looks like Real Salt Lake may have successfully negotiated a new contract with Kyle Beckerman.
Beckerman, 35, would be eligible for free agency, given his contract expired at the end of the 2017 campaign. But the most recent list from Major League Soccer, interestingly, doesn’t include Beckerman as a free agent.
The natural conclusion? He’s been re-signed, and the deal hasn’t yet been announced. Or, perhaps, a deal is in progress and there’s some other procedural reason he hasn’t been included.
Beckerman re-signing with Salt Lake would be no great surprise, of course — it’s been the expectation for the entirety of the offseason.
Nick Rimando, however, is on the list — we’ll see what happens with the RSL veteran goalkeeper.
