RSL vs. Minnesota United: Preseason player ratings

Defensive letdowns dovetailed with well-timed goals in an exciting 3-3 draw.

Starting XI

Vanoekel: 4Any time he let in a goal, I subtracted a point; otherwise, he didn’t do a whole lot that made me say, “Wow!”

Wingert: 5Wingert did okay today, but it’d be nice to see his experience shine through more than his age.

Schuler: 5.5I want Schuler to do as well as any RSL fan wants him to do, but letting his keeper down twice hurt his rating.

Maund: 6.5Maund has such high potential, but if Glad is going to be called up often, we need to find someone he works well with. He pulls ahead for his goal.

Phillips: 6Phillips had an okay showing. He is making runs and crosses for Plata and Yura to play off of, but he needs to be quicker coming back on the counter.

Silva: 7Silva is a well-rounded player who is quick and smart. I’d love to see both him and Rusnak on the field together more often, but I would also like to see more goals come from it.

Mulholland: 6Between Silva and Sunny, the third midfield spot is Luke’s to lose. He’s doing well, but I’d like to see some more urgency out of him.

Rusnak: 6.5Rusnak continues to impress me. He has some learning to do, but there is no doubt playing against this many teams (and on turf, no less) has helped immensely. The assist helped too

Plata: 6Plata has made some runs and got in dangerous positions, but there is room for improvement. I’d like to see him play under Yura as opposed to on the opposite side, but the 4-4-2 seems to be done.

Movsisyan: 6Yura made a lot of great runs… all of which were offside. He needs to watch his line better for instances in which our guys don’t get it to him soon enough.

Allen: 6.5The only thing that keeps me from really wanting to go with a 4-4-2 is the fact that I can’t find a spot for Allen, who is working his butt off to keep his spot. And boy, is it showing on the field!

Subs:

Brody: 6Got the goal off of a bad clearance, but still making a case that he can hang in their late.

Barrett: 6.5Finally got his goal and an assist to boot! Between two players, no less.

Fernandez: 5Let in the tying goal in the last play of the game.

Velazco: NADidn’t do enough that I saw, personally. He did get the long ball into Barrett though.

Holness: 5.5Holness is doing great and should do wonders for the Monarchs while also coming in as a great Sub for RSL.

Dunk: 4.5Showing his inexperience a little more than he is his youth.

Lachowecki: 5Missed a few passes, but otherwise not enough showing for me to give a very accurate rating.

Hernandez: NADidn’t do enough that I saw, personally.

Schmidt: NADidn’t do enough that I saw, personally.

Horst: 4.5Let Lalo down in the dying moments of the match.

Sunny: 5.5Doing a bit better than he has lately, but I still haven’t seen the Sunny we knew from last year.
