RSL vs. San Jose Earthquakes: What to watch

New, 4 comments

Will this be the day RSL newcomer Albert Rusnak debuts?

MLS: Real Salt Lake at San Jose Earthquakes Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Two games in a week? It feels like the regular season. Alas, we’re still watching live streams on YouTube from Casa Grande, Arizona. Don’t be too dismayed, though, there’s still a lot to watch as RSL takes on San Jose.

The debut of Albert Rusnak

We finally get to see what Albert Rusnak looks like in an RSL jersey in a (semi) competitive match. Expectations are high for the 22-year-old Slovak. The attacking midfielder brings international experience and a skillset that’s had clubs from here to Rome in pursuit. Hopefully, those skills have defenders all over MLS in pursuit.

Will Jordan Allen make it two goals in two games?

Allen got RSL fans salivating after his graceful diving header sealed NYRB’s defeat on Tuesday. It should be interesting to see what other delights he pulls out of his preseason bag of tricks. If nothing else, it’s just good to see him off the back line.

Goalie wars part two

It’s not really goalie wars, but it’s cool to see Lalo Fernandez and Matt Van Oekel fighting for the second spot. They combined for a shutout against a chippy NYRB on Tuesday, and look to keep the sheet clean against San Jose.

Anything you’re watching for that we missed?
