Real Salt Lake has officially announced that they’ve acquired forward Brooks Lennon on loan from English side Liverpool FC.

Lennon, 19, is a graduate of Real Salt Lake’s Arizona-based academy.

In a club-issued release, RSL Communications said he has been signed on a year-long loan deal, pending receipt of his international transfer certificate.

In the release, RSL general manager Craig Waibel said he’d been following Lennon’s development, and that they’re aiming to give him an opportunity to play first-team soccer.

Brooks (Lennon) is another in a long line of great stories from our Academy. They don’t all follow the same path, but we are proud to play a part in their development and get them on the field with Real Salt Lake. We’ve been following his development closely and to bring him back gives him a great opportunity to play first-team soccer.

Lennon had been impressing with Liverpool’s U-23 side, but while others in his group were called in to the first team by manager Jurgen Klopp, he hadn’t been.

The release doesn’t specify his squad status — whether he’s a homegrown player or not, or whether he’s on the supplemental roster.
