Real Salt Lake named Mike Petke as the new head coach of Real Salt Lake at a press conference today.
In a move widely rumored since his hiring in December as head coach to Real Monarchs, Petke has been elevated to the Real Salt Lake head coach role in record time.
Real Monarchs assistant Mark Briggs will take the Monarchs role.
Petke, 41, is a known commodity to all after guiding New York Red Bulls to a MLS Supporters Shield in his debut season. At the end of the 2014 season, Petke was removed as head coach, causing an outcry from the Red Bulls faithful as the fan favorite coach deserved better in their eyes and in the eyes of many others.
Those die hard Petke fans will no doubt be happy to see the talented coach land a head coach role in a team that for a number of years has been a play of regular.
