What a weekend for soccer in Utah — and that’s with only one of our two professional teams notching a victory.
An excellent comeback victory over the Rapids ...
Of course, it wasn’t all a bed of roses. Ben Smith tackled that in his continuing look at what RSL can do better.
We can't rely on Brooks Lennon deciding he is going to turn easy mode on and score bombs every game.
Too true, Ben. If you haven’t been reading what Ben’s been writing, I suggest you start. He hails from sunny England, has a strong wit about him, and looks at the game in a different way than most of us over here. And probably over there. Do keep an eye out for his series Across the Pond, too.
Mike Petke continues to be a good interview. Here’s what he had to say about preparations for the match in a post-match TV interview.
I think the guys — part of the reason we didn’t deal with it well — we didn’t anticipate it, I’ll be honest with you. They got behind the ball very quick and limited our opportunities going forward. The thing we didn’t do well enough was move the ball quick enough.
That he was able to come down from that win and give a coherent analysis tells us a lot about the guy. Oh, and there’s also this:

Meanwhile, Andy Graff is busy looking a gift horse in the mouth as he talks about what we learned from the match, and I threw together one of the more bizarre posts in our history with a Brooks Lennon hype train.
On the less-positive side of things, Real Monarchs lost their first match of 2017, and that really isn’t my favorite thing to have to report. Alas.

Comment of the weekend
I don’t think we give Yura enough credit where credit is due. He’s performing. If we switch everything up now, we will lose the chemistry that’s just starting to form in the attack. I’m more worried about the defense! Let’s get Glad and Tony back and put Acosta on his preferred left flank.
