Player ratings: RSL 1-3 Atlanta

RSL came out flat and never gained much traction.

MLS: Atlanta United FC at Real Salt Lake Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Rimando - 3 Rimando had everything to do with the first Atlanta goal and a lot tondo with the second. I’m not clear why he wanted to keep forcing the ball through the middle. that’s something they teach you not to do as a keeper very early on.

Danilo Acosta - 4.5 Danny had some decent passes and saw some lanes but wasn’t having the type of performance that one would want.

Chris Schuler - 5 Schu was put in some tough situations and did what he could. He let Atlanta’s breakaway speed get the best of him a few times.

Chris Wingert - 4.5 Wingert gave the ball away cheaply on the second Atlanta goal, but that ball never should have made its way to him in the first place. He did make some smart tactical fouls to prevent some clear Atlanta chances.

Demar Phillips - 6.5 Phillips gave RSL a shot in the arm when he got around three defenders with a nutmeg and a spin to lead to an RSL goal, but we needed more of that play from him and everyone else.

Kyle Beckerman - 6 Beckerman had to sit deep to help thwart Atlanta’s push and he did well. He also was barking at his team to try and will some energy, but it wasn’t taking.

Luke Mulholland - 6 Luke generally had a decent game. His defense and tackling was great, his passing was suspect.

Albert Rusnak - 6.5 Rusnak had RSL’s lone goal, and he did it from distance with precision. He was unable to do much in the way of chance creation up to that point though.

Brooks Lennon - 5 Lennon wasn’t nearly as effective and involved as he usually is. He got on the ball a few times, but didn’t connect.

Yura Movsisyan - 4.5 Yura could have done more with the times he got the ball in the box but took a touch too many every time.

Joao Plata - 4 Plata skied his chances when free kick opportunities were given him and looked tired a lot.

SUBSTITUTIONS

Matt Van Oekel - 5.5 He wasn’t put in a fair situation with just three defenders in front of him. He looked confident with his limited minutes though.

Bofo Saucedo - 6 Bofo was one of the few players making something happen on offense, even if he had to do it himself.

Luis Silva - N/A
