Real Monarchs sign Creighton, RSL-AZ grad Riggs Lennon

Perhaps more widely known as Brooks Lennon’s brother, Riggs joins with a pedigree of his own.

Real Monarchs are doing their part in bringing through talented academy players as usual, and this time around, they’ve signed the talented Riggs Lennon following his finishing at Creighton University.

Lennon, older brother to Brooks Lennon, is expected to play as a defender, according to a post on Real Monarchs’ website. Riggs Lennon played for the United States U-17 squad during his well-considered academy career, but his star has shown less brightly than his brother’s.

Lennon previously played with the Virginia men’s soccer team before rounding out his collegiate career at Creighton. There, he was the joint-top scorer in 2016, scoring 10 goals in 22 starts. But despite playing up top collegiately, he played as a defender for the youth international side, rendering a bit of uncertainty to the player.

It’s certainly unusual that brothers have played for an MLS team and that team’s USL affiliate — any other examples you can think of?
