Kyle Beckerman suspended for violent conduct on Dempsey, will miss Philadelphia match

RSL’s captain will sit against Philadelphia after being given a one-match suspension.

Kyle Beckerman has been issued a one-match suspension for violent conduct after lashing out at Clint Dempsey during Real Salt Lake’s loss to Seattle Sounders.

The incident came in the 16th minute of the match after Beckerman made a clean tackle against Dempsey before kicking at him with his trailing leg. No foul was called during the run of play.

It’s the second time Beckerman will have missed a match this season; the first came after he was sent off against LA Galaxy in March.

This leaves RSL with a likely midfield of Sunny and Luke Mulholland and no obvious backup for either player.

It’s a blow for Real Salt Lake, though, as they look to get properly going after a dismal run of form. Last week’s loss to Seattle was hailed by Petke as full of positive signs, contrasting sharply with the four-game losing streak that ended only a week prior.
