RSL vs. Minnesota: Jefferson Savarino, Man of the Match

Savarino played a new position for RSL. It went really well.

With Albert Rusnak off on international duty, we were wondering who would fill the void and take the offensive reins. Petke and co. opted with Jefferson Savarino having seen him in that role for Venezuela. After 90 minutes, it was clear that they made the right decision.

Savarino didn’t just fill the role, he excelled in the role. He was creative and decisive with an eye always towards the goal. I can’t remember the last time RSL had 29 shots. There was chance after chance and even though only one of those chances ended up in the net, the offense was flowing. Savarino was responsible for much of that drive.

None of this means that Rusnak should be bumped for Savarino. In fact, by my estimation, Rusnak has been RSL’s best player thus far in 2017. What it does mean, however, is that Savarino is another strong option to help drive the offense towards goal and that he continues to prove that he was a great addition to the club.

Petke and his staff now have some options and know a little bit more about where the identity and style of the club is headed.
