After what seems like months of waiting for a name to materialize linking anyone to Real Salt Lake, a name materialized in Turkish media reports today: Cristóbal Jorquera, a Chilean midfielder who’s playing at Bursaspor.
Jorquera, who turns 29 in August, has played in Europe since 2011, when Genoa brought him in from Chile.
The report pegs Jorquera as being the subject of an $800,000 transfer fee — although that would be a stretch, and indications in Salt Lake City are that any deal would be for significantly less money.
Transfermarkt lists Jorquera as being a central midfielder who can also play further up the field. This sort of move does fit with RSL general manager Craig Waibel’s stated goal to strengthen the spine of the team.
We’ll keep our ears to the ground on this one, and we’ve reached out to RSL Communications for comment. As usual, don’t expect any comment on a transfer deal until anything’s complete, as per club policy.
