Real Salt Lake’s home winning streak came screeching to a halt as they lost 1-0 to a Will Johnson-led Orlando City SC.
Will Johnson scored the opener from an Orlando City free kick from well outside the area, getting on the end of a poorly cleared free kick that had already rattled the crossbar from an initial shot. it was simply more of the same for a Salt Lake side that’s struggled early in matches, with the goal coming in the 17th minute.
RSL had a 25th minute scare when Justen Glad took a heavy fall during an attacking corner, but after some treatment, the center back returned to play.
RSL managed to carve out a variety of low-probability chances from out wide, with Plata picking up possession on the left side with startling frequency, but he proved profligate in his finishing and passing.
The second half saw Orlando playing in a fashion not entirely befitting a Jason Kreis side, with the team relying on long ball opportunities and defensive play to find the win.
Starting RSL lineup: Rimando; Wingert, Glad, Horst, Acosta; Beckerman, Sunny; Lennon, Savarino, Plata; Silva
