Real Salt Lake forward Ricardo Velazco underwent a surgery today, he posted on Twitter today. He’d posted Instagram story updates yesterday and this morning indicating preparation for the surgery.
UPDATE: RSL Communications confirmed the surgery was successful and estimated a fourth-month injury layoff for Velazco. With that timeframe, the soonest he could return might be an MLS Cup final, which seems like a bit of a stretch.
His injury came in the last week; Velazco entered RSL’s 6-2 win over LA Galaxy in the 83rd minute, and the Salt Lake Tribune reported he suffered a right ankle injury in training on Tuesday.
Thank you god, surgery was a success time to focus on recovery and coming back better than ever before!! pic.twitter.com/Zawwm93qg6

We don’t yet know details, but certainly, Velazco will be out for at least a few weeks. This only further deepens RSL’s injury outlay, with Jordan Allen undergoing surgery recently and being out for 2017. Omar Holness suffered an injury in recent weeks, and the prognosis apparently wasn’t positive.
Brooks Lennon suffered an ankle injury this week, as well, although he’s been cleared to jog, according to the Tribune report.
We’ve reached out to Real Salt Lake Communications for comment on the surgery.
