Real Salt Lake striker Chad Barrett’s return from injury was cut extremely short, and he announced today that he had undergone a second surgery that will keep him out for the remainder of the few remaining games in MLS.
In an announcement on Twitter, Barrett said he was “looking for a way back” to Real Salt Lake for 2018.
“Surgery number 2 took place yesterday,” he wrote. “Extremely disappointed but these things are not controllable. I’m hopeful for a full recovery and looking for a way back to this team next year. I want nothing more than to play with this special group. Good luck to the boys in LA.”

This is the first time in Barrett’s 13-year MLS career that he’s missed more or less an entire season of play. In 2012 and 2015, he played only 18 matches for LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders, respectively.
This will leave Barrett with three games played for Real Salt Lake, all of them taking place before Mike Petke arrived at the club.
