Report: Tigres midfielder Jesus Duenas an RSL target, MLS says

MLSSoccer.com’s Stejskal ground out another rumor from the rumor mill.

In yet another instance of what is probably the weirdest thing in American soccer, MLSSoccer.com’s Sam Stejskal is reporting a rumor about one of its own clubs — in this case, as you might have guessed from both the headline and the fact that we’re publishing it here, it’s Real Salt Lake.

They — we? — are rumored to be pursuing Jesus Duenas. Stejskal cites “league sources,” which is something fun, because it means somebody associated with the league would have been talking to somebody who writes for the league’s website.

Anyway, that’s not important. The facts are as follows:

  1. We have plenty of reasons to believe rumors that are coming directly from the league to the league’s website, so
  2. Real Salt Lake is almost certainly actually interested in this Mexican midfielder, Jesus Duenas.

Duenas, 28, plays for Tigres. And I don’t mean “plays for Tigres” in the Luis Silva sort of way — no, he’s a player that has made 253 appearances for the Liga MX standouts. Moreover, he’s a capped player for Mexico. He’s played in the occasional World Cup qualifier, but he hasn’t been incredibly consistent there. In that way, he’s very much a fringe player.

Are we going to sign Duenas? That’s certainly hard to say. But are we interested? I’d say that’s a definitive yes. We’ll talk more about this one in the coming days, but I’ve just got to say — I’m definitely excited by the idea. Keep your ears open.
