Ranking RSL’s jerseys over the years

How does 2018 stack up to previous years?

Matt Montgomery

I know, I know. This is awfully “cult of the new” over here, but I need to be honest about this. The latest kit? It’s as clean as we’ve ever had. 2008 and 2009 were good, but there were so many unnecessary curves on the shirt. 2005 had the blue shorts, but I don’t love that shirt. 2006 and 2007 overcomplicate matters, too. You’ll also see no away kits here. I’m far too clumsy when I eat tacos to truly love any white shirt.

5 - 2010-2011 third kit (please don’t hate me)

4 - 2010-2011 home kit

3 - 2006-2007 home kit

2 - 2012-2013 home kit

1 - 2018-2019 home kit

My choice for the number one kit on this list came down to the fact that it was a KISS kit. No, not a tie in with the glam rock juggernaught (although I want that kit now, complete with Kyle Beckerman in cat make-up) but that it followed the design principle KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid. Everything was represented in equal measure, nothing demanded your attention too much (I’m looking at you, giant yellow line on last years kit!!!) and yet it created a distinct look for the team both home and away.

5 - 2010 - 2011 Away Kit

4 - 2006 - 2007 Home Kit

3 - 2008 - 2009 Home Kit

2 - 2015 - 2016 Away Kit

1 - 2012 - 2013 Kits, tied for first.

I am a big fan of away kits, and as a result where I note home kit, it could also be applied to the away kits for that year as well. Although, in my eyes there is something just extraordinarily beautiful about the away kits last year, and it stood out miles above in comparison to the home kit. If the victory gold kits were used enough in order to qualify making this list, bump that up to number one because “TAKE ALL MY MONEY.”

Overall I much prefer the home kits; since numerous other teams also use white for their away color it makes them commonplace, and tediously boring. Victory Gold remains my favorite by a wide margin - it should return as our 2nd kit!

5 - 2010 - 11 Home Kit

4 - 2018 - 19 Home Kit

3 - 2006 - 07 Home Kit

2 - 2008 - 09 Home Kit
