Real Salt Lake is into the 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs after an utter collapse from LA Galaxy against Houston Dynamo.
RSL will play Los Angeles Football Club on Halloween, which is on Wednesday.
For about 25 minutes, we all held our collective breaths as we waited to see if Real Salt Lake could made the 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs.
That outcome depended on the result of LA Galaxy’s home match against Houston Dynamo. Any hope we had might have seemed misplaced, with the Galaxy scoring in the 27th and 30th minutes, with both goals coming from Ola Kamara.
And then, a Sunday miracle.
Houston Dynamo scored three uncontested goals, starting with one from Romell Quioto in the 57th minute and continuing with two Mauro Manotas goals in the 73rd and 79th minutes, respectively.
With the result, RSL finishes ahead of LA Galaxy in the standings, ending with 49 points to LA’s 48. With any result that ended with LA dropping points, RSL was slated to go through.
It’s a real turn after RSL’s 6-2 win over the Galaxy. In the six matches since that, RSL won just once and lost three times. The Galaxy, since that same point, lost once and won four times.
