Real Salt Lake announced that winger Joao Plata has been called into the Ecuador National Team for the FIFA international break. Ecuador will face Qatar and Oman in Qatar for a pair of friendlies.

The 26 year old has been in Major League Soccer since 2011, originally going to Toronto FC on loan from LDU Quito, and later joining Toronto full time. Plata was traded to Real Salt Lake in 2013 and has a total of 45 goals and 43 assists for the team. This season he sits on 8 goals and 8 assists, putting him in third place for goals scored and second in assists for RSL.

Plata was one of five players suspended indefinitely last October by the federation for alleged partying. Five players left the team hotel to attend a party before Ecuador’s 3-1 loss to Argentina. It was Plata’s first call up since 2014. Plata has four caps and two goals for his national team. RSL General Manager Craig Waibel stated that it has been a goal of Plata’s to rejoin his national team.
