Player ratings at “halftime”.

MLS: Western Conference Semifinal-Sporting Kansas City at Real Salt Lake Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Rimando - 4.5 Rimando’s best save came in the first half when Sporting had the best looks early on. He made a few other saves and had quite a few punches besides that. On the downside, he was unable to properly clear a ball in time which led to Sporting KC’s game-tying goal.

Aaron Herrera - 5.5 Herrera was a little sleepy on one or two of Kansas City’s corner kicks and game his mark a bit too much space. Herrera looked pretty good getting forward on the night though.

Chinedum Onuoha - 7 Onuoha is a defensive rock in the back. He also showed us that he is dangerous on set pieces and can dribble the ball.

Marcelo Silva - 5.5 Silva looked pretty good until he was subbed off about 40 minutes into the match. He made some really critical recovery runs to keep KC from getting a good look.

Brooks Lennon - 6 Lennon was having trouble getting his service where he wanted it to go. They were just a bit too high for the attackers. His defense contributed to keeping KC from having very many good scoring opportunities.

Kyle Beckerman - 5.5 Beckerman had a bit of trouble breaking through Kansas City’s midfield on the night. He was able to keep possession going with a backwards pass, but had less luck on a forward attempt. On the other side of the ball, his physical play and help defense were always there.

Sunny - 5.5 Sunny was as physical as ever in this game, but was not quite as sharp on the ball as usual.

Albert Rusnak - 7 Rusnak was one of the few players whose passing was sharp for the better part of the night. And his give and go half volley goal was the highlight of MLS on the night.

Damir Kreilach - 6.5 Kreilalch was quiet for most of the game, but came through on a beautiful assist to Rusnak that gave RSL its lone goal.

Joao Plata - 5 Plata was more or less ineffective getting forward. KC had his number.

Jefferson Savarino - 6.5 Savarino got around a lot of defenders and created some looks for RSL when not much else was going on. Unfortunately, nobody could get on the end of his service.

SUBSTITUTES

Justen Glad - 6 Glad came into the match at a strange time and fit in seamlessly. He played a clean game and got some valuable MLS Playoff time.

Corey Baird - 5.5 Corey helped create some chances for RSL, but was a little hesitant to take some chances himself.

Bofo Saucedo - N/A
