In case you thought Tucson wasn’t a perfect winter preseason getaway, Real Salt Lake is taking it one step further with a trip to Hawaii to face three teams, including two from Japan.
The four teams involved are Real Salt Lake, Vancouver Whitecaps, V-Varen Nagasaki from the J. League and Iwaki FC from the Society Soccer League, another Japanese league.
The two matches in the tournament are slated for:
- Feb. 8, 8:30 p.m.: RSL vs. Iwaki FC
- Feb. 10, 8:15 p.m.: Championship match (winner vs. winner)
- Feb. 10, 5:30 p.m.: Third-place match (loser vs. loser)
Times above are listed in Mountain Time.
It’s not the biggest tournament, certainly, but it’s something, and it starts to give us a view toward what RSL will be doing in preseason. Typically, RSL has traveled to Tucson, Ariz., for the Mobile Mini Sun Cup (formerly the Desert Diamond Cup); the club’s involvement in that has been neither confirmed nor denied, but they have yet to announce club lineups.
