2018 Dossiers: Luke Mulholland

He’s good for a laugh, but will this be the year he’s good for a lot of goals too?

I can hear it now, an entire crowd screaming “Luuuuuuuke” as Luke Mulholland scores his first goal of the season, he runs to the corner flag and boom, face plant. Okay, this isn’t all Mulholland is about; he’s also good at snowball fights. No, but in all seriousness, Mulholland is a comedic-relief providing, occasionally goal-scoring midfielder for RSL, and we all love him.

What to know

Mulholland isn’t the type of player that is going to start game in and game out and get you tons of goals, but he’s one of those guys you can call on when you need. You can sub him into a match and need a goal and he can probably help you get it, or at least relieve some stress with a good laugh. Mulholland may not be putting up the big numbers every season but he’s a fan favorite because he’s so much fun to watch.

What to expect in 2018

I think this season is going to be a little tougher for Mulholland to find some minutes. RSL made a lot of attack-minded transfers this offseason and there are a lot of people to pick from if you need a goal. I don’t think Mulholland will stop playing, because he has respect from Mike Petke, but I think he’ll have to work a little harder in 2018 for minutes.

What to hope for

Personally, I hope this is the year Luke finally starts to get lucky. He’s had a lot of seasons where things just don’t go his way and he doesn’t get a lot of minutes, I’m hoping he can score a couple goals, maybe start 10 or so games, and prove himself to be the great midfielder we know he’s capable of, he just needs a little luck on his side.
