Demar Phillips is a defender for Real Salt Lake, who has been a member of the club since the beginning of the 2015 season. In 2017 he logged 961 minutes on the field for the Claret and Cobalt, playing in the left back position. Demar is most well known as “Dump Truck” thanks to his hard-tackling nature.
What to Know
In 2017, Phillips saw his playing time dramatically decrease from the 2016 season. In 2016, he played in 29 games, while in 2017 he played in only 13 games, a result of injuries throughout the season as well as the breakout play of Danny Acosta. Demar appears to have worked hard through this offseason to recover from his injuries and be prepared for the 2018 season.
What to expect in 2018
As mentioned above, Phillips appears to have recovered from his injuries and is ready to compete for starting minutes this season. In the final preseason game last week, he was on the field in the left back position along with all of the other projected starters. This bodes well for him and the team as well. Whether he is the starter on opening day or not, it is clear that Demar is ready to compete for the team, and that competition can only push the rest of the team higher.
What to hope for
I hope to see Demar on the field in 2018 providing strong tackles and veteran leadership to the team. It is clear that is desire to play at a high level is still there, and I hope that desire and his efforts provide the same fire and passion to his teammates.
