Player Ratings: Toronto 3-1 RSL

RSL could not piece it together on the road.

MLS: Real Salt Lake at Toronto FC Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Rimando - 6 Rimando prevented another PK, this time on Giovinco. Then three other goals got through.

Demar Phillips - 6.5 Phillips had by far his best game of the season. His defense was pretty solid for the 90 minutes, but his service was off the mark. All in all, this was a great step forward for the outside back that has been struggling to this point.

Marcelo Silva - 5 Silva had some really bright moments but the communication between him and the rest of the defense was lacking.

Justen Glad - 4 Glad made at least three glaring mistakes that led to clear Toronto chances. He slowly started to get his feet under him as time went on, but all in all it was an off night.

Brooks Lennon - 5.5 Lennon got another chance at right back and did pretty well for himself for stretches. There were a couple of times that he got beat, but he fought back and had a decent game.

Kyle Beckerman - 5 Beckerman played hard like he always does, but picked up what was probably an unnecessary yellow card pretty early on putting undue pressure on him and others. He got beat a couple times and made a couple of great stops too.

Damir Kreilach - 4 This was one of those games where you can see the potential of Kreilach but realize that he is not yet adjusted to MLS’ play.

Albert Rusnak - 5 Rusnak looked frustrated that RSL was unable to get in a rhythm or maintain any sort of possession, and rightfully so. He had some nice moments of individual skill, but couldn’t facilitate because of the circumstances.

Jefferson Savarino - 5 Savarino had one bright moment in the game, and that was his pass to Baird to put him in a position to score. Otherwise, he pretty much looked like he did over the first few games - not so good.

Luis Silva - 4.5 Silva did not get to touch the ball very much. He had a few good passes but has had a hard time getting involved in games.

Joao Plata - 3.5 Plata had a few bursts of speed and great look at goal, but beyond that his effort just was not there. He seemed to give up after Toronto’s second goal and was the first player to be subbed off.

Substitutions

Corey Baird - 6.5 Baird came on and in 20 minutes gave RSL a jump start. His energy and effort were palpable. He took a nice pass from Savarino and turned it into a goal using some crafty awarness. This kid is going to get more minutes soon.
