Everything you need to know about RSL Soapbox

We’ve been here for a long time, and it’s time you got to know us a little more.

MLS: FC Dallas at Real Salt Lake Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

First, let me be the first to welcome you to RSL Soapbox. You’ve probably been here a long time, but with the first home match, we thought it was time we talked about our homes.

And by homes, I mean digitally. And maybe it’s not even everyone’s first home. It doesn’t have to be. Moving on.

Who do we think we are, anyway?

I know you probably know who I am — at least a little bit — but I’d like to invite you to check out our masthead. Get to know the writers. Everyone has a different take and approach to their writing, and no two of us share every viewpoint (even if you think all of us are wrong about everything.)

You’ve probably noticed new authors popping up on the site over the last year. We have a passionate, committed base of contributors, and I can’t be more proud of them.

I have an opinion and I need (...want?) to share it.

Good news — you can! There are three main ways for you to do that.

First, you can write a FanPost. You’ll see those on the homepage. This is a great way to contribute something longer than a normal comment, or something unrelated to a comment thread. We’ll be working this year to make sure those get more attention than they have in the past, too.

Second, you can write a comment on a post. We have a spirited group of commenters with lots of opinions, and so many of those people can’t wait to talk about things with you. Yes, you.

Finally, if you’d like to be a more regular contributor, contact me via my email on the masthead. We can chat about ways for you to do just that.

Why RSL Soapbox? I mean, the name.

Great question! The first to run the site, Denz — long before it got wrapped under SB Nation — gave it the name. I feel like it fits, because our goal is to provide many voices for Real Salt Lake fans.

What’s your goal?

Another great question! Like I said above, our goal is to provide a platform — a soapbox, if you will — for a diverse set of voices to be heard. Whether that’s through our regular contributors, through your FanPost contributions, your Oracle predictions, your comments, or your chatter on social media, we want to be representative of the diversity of Real Salt Lake fans. We know we have a long way to go before we’ll accomplish that lofty goal, but I know that with your help, we’ll get there.

Anything else?

Not really. If you made it this far, thank you.

If you ever feel like we’re missing something, or if you feel like we’re not being heard, contact me. My email is on the masthead.
