This week, just like any other in Major League Soccer had some intriguing story lines, and we’re here to take a look at some of them. From the battle between Bastian Schweinsteiger and Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Saturday in LA vs Chicago, to the Utah Royals FC home opener, we’ve got some of the cool storylines from the weekend, that you may not have heard about.
Zlatan vs. Basti
This is a duel between two soccer legends that everyone was excited to see. Once teammates, now rivals in a different league, people were excited to see how this one played out. The LA Galaxy took a 1-0 win, which shocked a lot of people. This matchup on the field was not only epic because its Zlatan and Bastian but because it shows a lot for how this league has grown. Who would have thought 10 years ago you would have THE Zlatan Ibrahimovic playing down in LA?

RSL at URFC home opener
Now if you’ve been on RSL Soapbox even once in the past week, I’m positive you knew that Utah Royals FC had their first ever home game on Saturday, which is awesome enough for it’s own section here, but that’s not all that happened. Real Salt Lake players Justen Glad, Luke Mulholland, and Corey Baird all made pregame appearances at “Carnival Real.” In addition to that, a majority of the team was present for the match. To top it all of, at half time Real Salt Lake’s USL affiliate team the Real Monarchs was honored at half time for their USL Shield won last season. All in all, epic day for all things in Utah’s soccer.
More Chicharito Rumors
Yup, they’re back. Seems like every few years or so this rumor seems to pop up again. Chicharito to MLS, will it ever actually happen? Could this be the time it actually does? I guess we’ll have to keep watching this saga to find out. Who knows! Supposedly there are 5 teams interested, one of them being Real Salt Lake. We’ll have to see come the summer transfer window if any of these rumors come true.
Zlatan to the World Cup?
So much speculation has happened of whether or not Zlatan would be going to the World Cup. Well most of that ended today when Zlatan himself put out a tweet saying, “The chance of me playing in the World Cup is skyhöga #FifaWorldCup2018” which basically means, it’s pretty likely he feels that he will be on the roster. Again, stay tuned and we will have to find out if that comes true.
